Quality system

Verified, documented and traceable

In short

CharMax Precision operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system at its aluminum die casting facility in Dongguan, Guangdong, China. Quality control covers spectrometer verification of incoming alloy, first article inspection before every production release, CMM dimensional measurement with printed reports, material traceability to ingot lot, and leak testing on pressure-tight parts.

Casting quality is verified rather than assumed. Every production lot is traceable to the aluminum ingot batch it was cast from and to the logged shot parameters and die temperatures of the batch that produced it. When a dimension drifts or a porosity result changes, that record shows which variable moved.

We are deliberately clear about the limits of our certification. We hold ISO 9001:2015, not IATF 16949 or ISO 13485. We supply PPAP-format documentation for automotive programs and full traceability for medical equipment components, but we do not claim certifications we do not hold.

What our quality system covers

ISO 9001:2015 quality system

Documented procedures for incoming material, process control, in-process inspection, non-conformance handling and corrective action, audited annually by an accredited certification body.

CMM inspection

Coordinate measuring machines verify dimensions, position, flatness and perpendicularity against your drawing, with printed dimensional reports issued per lot.

Material traceability

Every casting lot is traceable to its aluminum ingot batch and supplier certificate. Spectrometer analysis confirms alloy chemistry before casting begins.

Dimensional inspection

Calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges and custom go/no-go fixtures cover routine production checks against an agreed sampling plan.

First article inspection

A full FAI report covering every dimension on the drawing is produced and approved before any production release, and again after any tooling change.

Quality reports and documentation

Dimensional reports, material certificates, RoHS declarations, surface finish records and PPAP-format documentation packages supplied with shipments on request.

Inspection equipment

What we measure with, and to what resolution

A quality claim is only as good as the equipment behind it. This is the measuring equipment in our inspection room and what each instrument verifies.

X-ray inspection and metallurgical sectioning for internal porosity assessment are arranged through accredited third-party laboratories when a program requires them.

Inspection in practice

Dimensional, material and pressure verification

Production lots are checked with the method appropriate to the characteristic: direct measurement, alloy chemistry verification or functional leak testing.

Process control

Where inspection happens in the production route

Inspection is distributed through production rather than concentrated at the end, so a problem is caught at the operation that caused it.

Requesting documentation

Send your document requirements with your RFQ and we will confirm at quotation which records we can supply and which need a third-party laboratory. Certificates, control plans and inspection reports are issued in English.

Quality and certification questions

Are you ISO 9001 certified?

Yes. CharMax Precision operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, audited annually by an accredited certification body. The certificate covers documented procedures for incoming material control, process control, in-process and final inspection, non-conformance handling, corrective action and traceability. We will send a current copy of the certificate on request.

Are you IATF 16949 or ISO 13485 certified?

No, and we would rather tell you plainly than let you discover it late. We hold ISO 9001:2015 only. For automotive work we supply PPAP-format documentation and operate as a Tier 2 or Tier 3 supplier, typically under a customer's own IATF-certified quality umbrella. For medical work we manufacture equipment enclosures and structural components with full lot traceability, but we are not a supplier for implantable or patient-contact critical devices.

What documentation do you supply with a shipment?

As standard, a dimensional report for the lot and a packing list. On request we add material certificates, RoHS declarations, coating thickness and salt spray records, leak test results, first article inspection reports, process flow diagrams, control plans and capability study data. Specify what your quality system needs at the quotation stage so the records are generated during production rather than reconstructed afterwards.

How do you handle a non-conforming shipment?

Report it with photographs and measurement data and we open a corrective action within one business day. We contain the affected lot, identify root cause using the batch process log and inspection records, and issue a written corrective action report with the countermeasure and its verification. Replacement parts are expedited, and where a defect escaped our inspection we revise the inspection plan so the same escape cannot repeat.

Do you perform capability studies?

Yes, on request for designated critical dimensions. We measure a statistically valid sample from a production run and report Cp and Cpk against your specification limits. Be aware that as-cast features have wider natural variation than machined features, so critical dimensions requiring a high capability index should be machined after casting rather than held as cast.

How do you control porosity in die cast aluminum?

Porosity is controlled at three stages: melt preparation with degassing and filtration, die design with engineered overflows, vents and gate geometry validated by flow simulation, and process control with logged shot profiles and die temperatures. Where parts must be pressure tight or heavily machined in critical areas, we design vacuum assist or use A360 alloy, and verify with leak testing or X-ray inspection.

How is our intellectual property protected?

We sign your NDA before receiving files and can sign a mutual agreement if you prefer. Your tooling is dedicated to your part and is never used for another customer, your drawings are not shared outside the engineering and production team assigned to your program, and we do not display customer parts or names in marketing material without written permission.
